You followed the toad and found my blog. Glad you’ve made it here!
What can you expect from this blog? — Stories from near and far, in words and pictures. Without ulterior motives. No business model, no ads, no SEO-optimised babble. Just what comes to mind when I’m travelling or at home.
Who are we? — There’s me writing, Johannes. I live in Berlin and Brandenburg and, well, I like travelling. Then there’s my young co-pilot, a.k.a. daughter, and her mum. We travel this beautiful planet in different constellations.
What’s the point? — In short: I like sharing stories from the road. So far, I’ve mainly done so on social media. But for some time now, I’ve been increasingly annoyed with being told by some Silicon Valley bros what to share, how, when and in what format so that the algorithm likes it and someone actually gets to see what I write. So starting an old-school blog in 2025 seemed like a no brainer.
Why toads? — They are just cool animals! Hardly any other animal has that ratio of self-confidence to size. A predator approaching? No problem, puff up, look grumpy and carry on. A toad doesn’t mind not being the prettiest animal in the forest. There are toads almost everywhere. Where there are no toads, there’s also little life. And unlike their athletic, long-legged colleagues, the frogs, they are capable of shutting up and simply enjoying life.
How do we travel? — With wide eyes and (hopefully) an open heart. Slowly. The journey being our destination. Preferably to places that are a little wilder. Most of times with our own vehicle, but occasionally without. So that the moment is more important than the photos afterwards, or whatever gear.
Sounds good? Then come along for a bit!
